Mike Chapa

Executive Director

Mike has been the Executive Director of CHEC since September of 2009.  His formal education includes bachelor's and master's degrees in Aerospace Engineering and he is a graduate of the USAF Academy class of 1989.  Mike retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 2009 from the USAF after serving more than 20 years as a fighter pilot and test pilot.  His last assignment was teaching aeronautical engineering at the USAF Academy and flying cadets in general aviation aircraft.  Mike serves as an elder in his church and is pursuing a Masters of Divinity to become a pastor.  He and his wife Tonya previously served as the the year round CHEC Volunteer Chairmen from 2007-2009.   They homeschool their four youngest children in the eastern Black Forest having graduated the oldest two.

Mike Cheney

Operations Director

Mike and his wife, Roxie, have been blessed with two children, Annie and Corey, whom they have home educated since birth. After leaving the corporate real estate world in 1997, Mike opened a hot dog stand in downtown Denver and, later, a real estate brokerage from their home, allowing him to spend more time with his family.   Mike’s passion is to see the Lord turn the hearts of men to their wives and children and to see them freed from the trappings of their occupations which comes at the expense of their families. Mike has served as CHEC's Operations Director since January 2002.

Scott Davidson

Events Coordinator

Scott and Andie have been homeschooling since 2004. They have been blessed with seven children and hope for many more! The Davidson family is new to the Parker area and Scott is serving as the executive director for Generations with Vision. They enjoy spending time together as a family, building relationships with other believers and have a heart to help other families dig deeper into God's Word to better glorify Him in their home life. Scott and Andie coordinate various events for CHEC.

Bryan Helgesen

Board Member

Bryan Helgesen has been blessed to be a part of the CHEC board of directors team since 2006.  Bryan and his wife Jeanna live in Parker, Colorado where they home-school and disciple their five beautiful children. The Helgesen family has served in a variety of positions within CHEC and their local home-school support group. Bryan works in various technical and business leadership positions in the aerospace industry, and serves as a pastor-elder at Living Water Christian Fellowship  in Castle Rock, CO (http://livingwatercf.org/). Bryan's passion and purpose is to glorify God and bear good fruit for many generations by simply loving his wife and children.

Brenda Kelly

Board Member

Brenda Kelly and her husband Les have been shepherding the hearts of their six children toward God and focusing on character since the birth of their first son in 1985. They began formal homeschooling in 1989 and have graduated three. The Kelly family moved to Littleton, Colorado in 1991. In 2004 they pursued a life-long dream to build their own home and moved out to the eastern plains.  While church remains a main focus of ministry, Brenda has been involved with CHEC since 1994: writing for the CHEC Guidebook, working on the conference team and serving as a board member.

 

Richard Lawrence

Board Member

Richard and his wife Debbie live in northern Colorado with their four children. They have been homeschooling their children since 1995. Richard worked as an Electrical Engineer for about 20 years. In 2005 he left his engineering job to work at home full time. Together Richard and Debbie have written 11 Christian Science books which are now published by Answers in Genesis. They also started "R and D Educational Center" to sell science and history books. Doing the work on the books with his wife has not only been a blessing to Richard, but it has also increased his understanding of the wonders God put all around us. As a family, they enjoy camping, hiking, and reading.

Kevin Lundberg

Board Member

Kevin, his wife Sandy, and their three children live in rural Larimer County. Kevin's principle occupation has been providing video and multi-image production services for small businesses and nonprofit organizations. He currently serves as State Senator for Senate District 15. Kevin and Sandy helped found Christian Home Educators of Colorado in 1990.

Paula Miller

Update Editor

Paula Miller has been homeschooling for over 14 years and lives in Colorado Springs. She is blessed with three daughters, two of whom have graduated. Involvement with leadership both in and out of the homeschool arena describes a significant portion of her life. Working with the fantastic people who volunteer at CHEC has enriched her life!

Paula serves as the Editor for CHEC's quarterly Update magazine.

Bill Roach

President of CHEC Board

Bill Roach is in his 6th term as President of CHEC and has been a board
member since 1996. He and his wife Shalyn have had the privilege of discipling
their five children since birth, except for the youngest two who were adopted
as babies. Bill and his family work in various family businesses and enjoy
the blessing and challenge of working with each other. The Roaches have
served in various positions within CHEC including Conference Coordinators and
desire to see families in Colorado love God more with their heart, soul, and
mind. They currently live in Castle Rock.

George Sechrist

Board Member

George is a past President of the CHEC Board. George and Tammy Sechrist live in South Jeffco, Colorado. They have always home educated their four children. To the Sechrists homeschooling has always been a rewarding lifestyle. They own a small Allstate Insurance Agency, which George works at full time. George and Tammy had the privilege of developing the Junior Legislator program with the goal of helping homeschool families gain even more from the CHEC Homeschool Day at the Capitol.

Kevin Swanson

Director, Generations With Vision

Kevin Swanson is a second generation homeschooler, having graduated from his home school in 1981.  He has a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering and worked in engineering and corporate management for ten years prior to joining CHEC as the Executive Director in the late 1990's where he served in that capacity until August 2009.  He has authored numerous books including, The Second Mayflower, and Upgrade, the Ten Secrets for the Best Education for your Child.  Kevin hosts the largest daily homeschool radio program in the world - Generations Radio – that is available now online.  He is married to Brenda and they homeschool five children in Elizabeth, Colorado.
