2015 Spelling Bee
Why not actually take some time to study spelling and do it with a goal? CHEC hosts an annual spelling bee for homeschool students and some of these kids have participated in the Denver Post (local) Spelling Bee. Qualifiers from that competition then have a chance to compete in the Scripps (national) Spelling Bee.
Make it fun! We’ve had support groups create spelling study groups, groups of families get together to prepare, and siblings work on studying the word lists together. Competition day is designed to reflect some of the elements of the state bee and the whole experience is kept positive!
Who can participate: Any homeschool student in the state of Colorado.* The speller must not have passed beyond the 8th grade on or before February 1, 2015. The speller must not have reached his/her 15th birthday on or before August 31, 2014.
*Please note that if you live in Boulder County, you must participate in the Boulder County Spelling Bee.

Studying resources: Go to myspellit.com. You will notice a list of words by language of origin available on the left. These are the SpellIt! words, and will be the main source of words for the written portion of the Bee. Once you register, we will send you a classroom list to study from as well. Additionally, spellingbee.com has a section titled Students and Parents that has some good suggestions for making studying fun.
