The 2014 Spelling Bee
was a fantastic event!
It was good to see so many new faces this year at our local spelling bee! On February 15, 2014 spellers came ready to be challenged with a 50-word written test composed of words from the Spell It! word list as well as from the dictionary. As the written portion progressed, students grappled with words such as Bolshevik, asthmogenic, and cappelletti. Emily Tuttle, Christina and Melissa Avery, Amy Sarah Jones, Luke Henson, Rachel Brody, and Alex Prieger qualified to the CO State Spelling Bee which was held March 8, 2014. Congratulations to all!!
We also want to congratulate Alex Prieger for qualifying to the oral round at the CO State Spelling Bee! He scored high enough on a 30-word written test and a 15-word vocabulary test to rank in the top 34 out of 245 participants, placing him on the stage to compete for the opportunity to go to Washington D.C. What a wonderful accomplishment! We look forward to seeing you all again next year at the bee!!
And why might you consider signing up your student for next year’s bee? ‘Cause spell check doesn’t always catch everything!
