Volunteering for CHEC
There are many opportunities for individuals and families to give back to the homeschool community by volunteering with CHEC. If you are interested in volunteering, please read the information below and submit a Volunteer Interest Form.
Year Round Volunteers
- CHEC is volunteers – busy homeschooling families, just like you, who see a need and get involved! We thank you for helping CHEC make a difference in our state.
- Conference vouchers can be earned year round by volunteering at special events (Day at the Capitol, Speech and Debate, Spelling/Geography Bees, etc.), helping with various projects (stuffing parties) and helping in the CHEC office.
- CHEC encourages involvement by the whole family. Children are welcome to join in the year-round volunteer activities.
State Conference Committee
Chairman – Responsible for one of the eight major sections of the conference (Vendor, Workshop, Registration, Facilities, Conference Office, Volunteers, Publicity, Publications) and attends conference meetings every month with written reports and updates.
Area Coordinator – Responsible for a specific area under each major category and attends conference meetings approximately every other month with written reports and updates.
Both Committee Chairmen and Area Coordinators receive a full conference pass for themselves and their immediate family, as well as other conference related benefits. Immediate family members include children, spouses and children's grandparents.
If you're interested in a conference position, please let us know ASAP as planning goes on year round.
State Conference On-Site Volunteers
Day Supervisor – Volunteers who work all day (minimum of eight hours) and are responsible for the oversight and supervision of other volunteers will receive a conference pass for themselves and their immediate family. Day Supervisors also receive a lunch voucher to be used toward food or drink purchase at the Mart Cash Cafe, (No money returned if the full value is not used at one time) and a volunteer gift for that conference year (i.e. travel mug).
All Day Workers – Volunteers who work a minimum of eight hours in one day at the conference will receive hourly vouchers, a volunteer gift for that conference year (i.e. travel mug), and a lunch voucher to be used toward food or drink purchase at the Mart Cash Cafe. (No money returned if the full value is not used at one time).
Hourly Workers – Volunteers who work on an hourly basis before or during the conference will receive hourly vouchers (see voucher section).
Dress code- In order that we do not offend the sensibilities of others, and to maintain a professional appearance, we ask that all volunteers please dress according to the following described dress code guidelines. Women wear a modest, well covering dress, jumper, or skirt and blouse. Men wear dress slacks and dress shirt.
Ribbons/Buttons-Volunteers are given a ribbon and a conference button that identifies them as a CHEC volunteer.
Child Care-Unfortunately, we have no provision for your children during conference meetings, or at the conference; we respectfully ask that you make other arrangements for them.
Volunteers receive vouchers, which may be used as a direct discount on conference registration for immediate family members. Immediate family members include children, spouses and children's grandparents.
All CHEC volunteers receive $3.00 per hour off personal or immediate family member's conference registration only. This includes time volunteered both before and during the conference. Hours volunteered after the conference earns vouchers toward the next year's conference.
