Public Policy
CHEC's public policy team watches for proposed state and/or federal legislation which may affect home educators. When an issue of concern arises, information is passed on to families through our quarterly news magazine, e-mail alerts, and our website. Each spring, CHEC organizes the Homeschool Day at the Capitol, an opportunity for home schooling families to visit the state capitol, participate in workshops, and enjoy a rally on the west steps. In the past we have had presidential candidates, senators, and the governor join us on the steps. This "field trip" helps demonstrate to your children how important it is to be involved in the civic affairs of our land. It has become a tremendous opportunity to make a positive statement for home education before our government representatives and the community at large.
