Foundations for the Future

Recently a change has become evident which has deeply impacted Christian Home Educators of Colorado. Our culture has reached that "teachable moment," where the status quo answers for education are no longer accepted as the only way to go. Calls to our office have increased dramatically. Attendance at the annual conference and beginners workshops are up. The media's interest in homeschooling has increased several-fold. Public perception of homeschooling has shifted from being an unusual and rare phenomenon to that of an accepted educational format.

Christian Home Educators of Colorado now has an even greater opportunity to show how homeschooling with a Biblical worldview can be a positive solution for our culture. Yet this opportunity is taxing our resources and causing us to seriously reevaluate how prepared CHEC is for tomorrow. If Christian Home Educators of Colorado is retooled with the proper resources and an effective plan of action I believe we can greatly impact families, support groups, communities, higher education, our state, and our nation.

Accordingly, the board of directors initiated the Foundations for the Future capital campaign. Through this three year campaign we are seeking God's guidance for the long term direction of CHEC. If He blesses us with the resources to simply continue our current scope of ministry, we will pursue that course with diligence. If He provides more, we are prepared to develop an aggressive ministry that can ultimately help reshape the very concept of education. This is a lofty goal, but with the intense emphasis which our culture already places on education, it is time a concerted effort be given to reasserting parental responsibilities and other Biblical principles in education.

We believe CHEC is uniquely positioned to effectively demonstrate these truths to families, the media, the marketplace, to our political leaders and the general educational community. Given adequate resources, Christian Home Educators of Colorado could develop a more substantial statewide support mechanism for home education (i.e. regional resource centers, local workshops for parents and students, enhanced support systems for local groups). We could expand our Website to be a comprehensive information and resource center. A fully funded leadership staff could aggressively represent home education to media, commerce and government. A permanent facility would insure CHEC's viability for years to come. An endowment fund would add more long term stability to CHEC and allow us to provide seed monies for innovative programs across the state.

All of this and more are part of a detailed plan the CHEC board has adopted as our blueprint for the future. In addition, should God provide above and beyond our immediate needs, we are prepared to establish a separate educational foundation. This corporate structure would become a conduit for the long term investment of resources into the mission and ministry started by Christian Home Educators of Colorado. These resources would be used to strengthen families through the avenue of home education. The foundation would encourage future generations to be godly individuals, committed parents, responsible citizens, and salt and light for Christ.

"Tell your children about it, and let your children tell their children, and their children another generation." - Joel 1:3

This passage reflects our desire. Through Foundations for the Future we are seeking God's guidance as we develop the long term strategy for Christian Home Educators of Colorado. Please prayerfully consider how you might help Christian Home Educators of Colorado become a more effective agent of change in our culture. "That the generation to come might know... That they might set their hope in God." - Psalm 78:6-7
