Homeschool Law – Option A

Summary of requirements for homeschooling following Option A

1.  File a Notice of Intent (NOI) annually with a school district when the child turns six by August 1 until their 16th birthday.  This notice must be filed 14 days prior to starting the homeschool program.

2.  School 172 days with an average of 4 hours per day. (To obtain an average add up the total hours and divide by the total days.)

3.  Maintain records including: attendance data, test or evaluation results and immunization/exemption records. You should also keep a copy of your NOI.

4.  Test or evaluate when the child is in 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th and 11th grades using a nationally standardized test. For testing information:  http://chec.org/resources-2/resource-center/testing/ Submit a copy of these test scores or evaluation to the school district where the NOI was filed or to an independent school that holds test scores.
